MICHAEL ARDEN

Although he is most recognized for his role as ‘Patrick” on the FX/FOX comedy series Anger Management starring Charlie Sheen, Michael is also a respected and talented singer, composer and director.

Recently, Michael was nominated for a 2016 Tony Award for “Best Directing of a Musical” for the Tony-winning musical Spring Awakening. The soulful coming-of- age story that sent shockwaves through Broadway in 2006, opened at Broadway’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre last September for a limited engagement.

Based on the Deaf West Theatre production, the show was performed simultaneously in American Sign Language and spoken English by a cast of 27. The musical is a coming of- age story set in 19th century Germany, based on the 1891 play of the same title.

For his direction of Spring Awakening, Michael was awarded the 2016 “Outstanding Director” trophy by the Outer Critics Circle Awards in May.

Michael made his Broadway debut playing Tom Sawyer in the 2003 Roundabout and Deaf West revival of Big River. More notably, he starred opposite John Hill in 2004’s off-Broadway production, Bare, A Pop Opera. In 2005, Michael played Nick, a sexually promiscuous gay man in love with a shark, in Adam Bock’s surreal play Swimming in the Shallows at New York’s Second Stage Theatre. His other theater credits include Pippin, God of Vengeance, Falsettoland, Tom Jones Harold and Maude, West Side Story, Songs for a New World, The Common Pursuit, and A Winter’s Tale. Most recently, Michael played the role of Quasimodo in the new Disney musical Hunchback of Notre Dame at San Diego’s La Jolla Playhouse and the Papermill Playhouse in New Jersey.

He also toured Europe with Barbara Streisand as one of her “Broadway Boys.”

A Presidential Scholar in the arts, Michael has received training at Interlochen Arts Academy and the prestigious Julliard School.

Growing up in Texas, he was raised by his grandparents and was a student at Trinity School. At the time, he was already active in the Pickwick Players. Michael got his start in acting on the stage but has also appeared on several television series since then such as ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Numb3ers for CBS, as well as the FOX series The Return of Jezebel James. Other television credits include The Good Shepherd, Bones, The Good Wife, Unforgettable, The Mentalist and Royal Pains. He has also been seen co-starring with Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump in a Domino’s Pizza television commercial, and with Regis and Kelly in Commerce Bank commercial.

Having also done work in film, Michael has had roles in the films Underground, Bride Wars, Source Code and The Odd Life of Timothy Green. Michael will soon be seen co-starring with Cloris Leachman, Alfie Woodard, and John Heard in the upcoming feature film SO B. IT. which had to have its’ world premiere at the LA Film Festival in June.
